Edgar Winter
Multi-instrumentalist and band leader Edgar Winter makes his Violet’s Venue debut on Friday August 7th.
Like his famous older brother, Johnny, Edgar was born and raised in Beaumont Texas. A child prodigy, Edgar distinguished himself on keys, guitar, sax, and percussion as well as a proving to be a convincing singer; and he’s forged a career that continually has crossed genre lines. Winter is equally at home kicking out Rock, Jazz, and Pop with Blues at the heart of his material, and can always be counted on doing the unexpected.

Over a career that’s spanned more than 40 years, Winter has enjoyed a number of successes, none bigger than the Edgar Winter Group. Formed in 1972, the collective was a “super group” – to use the popular refrain of the times – but no one knew at the time. With Ronnie Montrose, (guitar), Dan Hartman, (bass), and Chuck Ruff (drums), the EWG released the hugely successful They Only Come Out At Night that spawned the memorable hits “Frankenstein” and “Free Ride”.
From there Edgar has gone on to release more than 20 albums – including the raucous Rock / Blues / R&B workout Together Live with brother Johnny – as well as seeing his works being featured in films and commercials. Also of note, Edgar was chosen as a featured performer on 3 separate renditions of Ringo Starr’s All-Stars from 2006 through 2011.
And the book isn’t closed yet on Edgar Winter – as the crowd that witnesses his performance is sure to attest. There will no doubt be a reprise of his hits as well as an equal number of surprises dripping with Texas grit and Funk. Be there for the next chapter!
